Square Off - Chess Set

It doesn't matter if people you know know how to nplay, you play with it online anyway! That's the point!

I have a Grand Kingdom set, and while it is nice to have the pieces get parked in their spots when taken it is by no means essential. It also takes extra time to move the piece off to its space, and then come back to move the opponents piece into the now vacant square

What I meant was, it will probably be used to play other games as well happy.png

As for time consuming, I have no experience but the SWAP comes with the PRO version of the arm bot so at least I know it will be as fast as they can make them grin.png

I think the speed improvements are designed for play via Chess.com really. On the current devices the piece movement takes up too much time, especially on captures, so you need to play a 15min game minimum or else you time out.

Yes and even a 1.5X improvement on Neo doesn't seem to be fast enough. If Neo has to pro armbot it would be a great machine. Will probably pick it instead of the Swap

I am super happy using the Grand Kingdom set to play Rapid games here, 15 10 is perfect. I don't think I want to try a faster game even with a movement speed improvement.

My /only/ gripe is that I wish the pieces were a little heavier as they are a bit easy to knock over

KVJin

Oh, I see. Also, do you think the pieces are large enough to play let's say a 5 mins game?

BaronVonChickenpants

Not sure how the size of the pieces affects the suggested game length, but I wouldn't use the existing sets for 5 min games on chess.com, you will lose too much time while the pieces move. The new ones on kickstarter are supposed to be quicker.

You can play games against other Square Off users, and in those games your clock is paused when the pieces move, so can play quicker games that way, but that is not in chess.com

Would it not be the case that heavier pieces would be harder for the mechanism to drag the pieces across the board using magnetic force?
Rubicon0367
I was thinking that the extra weight would cause a higher drag coefficient leading to the piece becoming decoupled from the magnet. I believe (although may be mistaken) the current square off board uses pressure sensors so the computer may not know it had dropped a piece. There may be materials one could use beneath the pieces to lessen the friction.

But yes, long term wear is also another consideration.
BaronVonChickenpants

Yes, I'm sure that's the reason they are so light, as I said it's my only gripe!

Really closing in on the 600.000$, good news for the NEO supporters happy.png

Is is unrealistic to hope for delivery before June 2020??

Hi Guys, Probably a stupid question but I can't find out what the latest version of the Square Off Kingdom Set Firmware is, my current one is 35v1, or the latest version of the App, my Android version is 3.2.8(309). Tried to find on Square Off website if there are later versions...Or do these devices update automatically?

BaronVonChickenpants

They update automatically, when you connect the board to the app it'll prompt you up update before you can do anything.

They should or people will get mad.

BaronVonChickenpants

No reason to get mad if the  stretch goal was not hit but it would be great to have.

Dennis_Petersen

with 12 hours to go they only need less than$3000 to reach the goal and add the battery to the Neo
