Square Off - Chess Set

As per their last update they shipped NEO to all US backers and 100 SWAP. 
And next plan from their update was "assembly of the next set of 1000 Neo boards and 500 SWAP boards was being carried in full swing and has been on a satisfactory trajectory towards completion"

Hi All 

New to this site , I sign up after just pre-ordered the SWAP from Square Off’s website.

Apparently I'm in batch 2 and should get the board in Match 2023 *fingers crossed”.

Haven’t played chess in years, did a few apps a while back but the POV I did not get on with and prefer an actual board, so buying this means I can use a board while taking advantage of the world of online chess, and chess is something I’ve always wanted to get back into but know one I know likes chess,  so I’m excited  .

While I wait for my board I might just have to learning about different ratings, what the different A.I  names mean and everything else relating to online chess . Plus brush up on my skill as everyone on here will probably beat me at the moment lol.

Reading this thread and watching YouTube regarding Square Off boards after my impulse purchase has reassured me I’ve done the right thing and it seems a majority of people have had great experiences once they do finally receive their board.

As of this post, no one has received their SWAP in the last 3 years.  They probably will deliver, but don't expect it March of 2023.  

That's not true, the Swaps are being sent out now, there have been a few people in the Square Off Facebook group who have posted videso and unboxing videos,

I really hope they are worth the wait.

Not receiving one is very true.. I've had two on order for a year.. ordered thinking I would get for Christmas last year, got an email saying March 2022, then another moving to July 2022, then another for October 22, and then last week 31 December 2022..  I asked for a refund.. I can find something better to do with my $500 instead of waiting years for a chess board that never comes.   Do not buy!

$500? What did you order? Was it via Kickstarter? 

Finally got my Swap yesterday after an 18-month wait. It’s certainly not a showpiece, the board surface image particularly looks cheap. I’m also getting periodic Bluetooth disconnects — is that a known issue with their other boards?

Having trouble getting my grand kingdom to work with chess.com. I can connect to games but cannot use the board for play. Any suggestions?

Sure. I open the Square off app. I pair my device with the board. I select challenge friends. I search for my friend who is logged into chess.com. When I find him I select his username. A new window opens where I can set the parameters for the game. I select a challenge.

Here is where it gets Squirrley. More often than not. I get the pin wheel of death and my friend cannot see the challenge. A couple times, though, he has seen my challenge excepted it, and the game has begun. Once the game begins, I can only interact with him through the board on my device. The grand kingdom is unresponsive to my moves, and does not animate or reflect his moves.

Sure, it absolutely makes sense. I had a similar experience several years ago with a friend. We've defaulted to him downloading the Square Off app and playing on that, which does move my Kingdom pieces.

My only suggestion is to make sure you have the most up to date Square Off app.

I have played strangers on Chess.com with the pieces moving. I created a challenge specifically for Chess.com and used a 20 minute plus 10 game. Someone joined and it worked nicely

Since I play weekly with my friend with no time control, we've had only a few minor clitches with the Square Off app.

You bet! Ive been enjoying my board since before Covid. I also lock my board after each use. Good luck.

I had luck with Square Off and Chess.com when I was having issues with it by uninstalling my phone software and completely reinstalling it.

Why do you lock it between uses?

What do you mean by "locking your board"? I own one but haven't used it in about 9 months. Thx
