Stalemate

I was playing against this guy and I had 2 queens, a knight, a bishop, 2 rooks and 3 pawns, he only had a pawn left. And POW! I stalemated.

It lowered my rating alot.

Is there anyway to prevent stalemate?

give your opponent room to move before you make your final move as checkmate one.

what I meant was is, make sure that your opponent has a legal move after you have finish your move if your are not going to make a check or checkmate move.

after e4 e5 Nf3 f6 the best move is Nxe5

Instead of wasting time promoting for a second queen you should have gone for a simple king-queen mate

Given the large number of simple mistakes from start to finish, the real solution if you really want to improve is not to focus on the specific problem of stalemates, but instead to do lots of work on tactics and basic checkmates.
