it surely puts a new spin on chess, pretty interesting. I remember with MK: Deception, the Kombat Chess mode, I was playing that constantly, but this is better

I remember that back in the days of Warcraft III: the Frozen Throne, I tried to create a chess game with the World Editor, but it didn't really work out. Fortunately, the Editor in Starcraft II has a much larger array of tools with which players can create their own custom maps. Now we can enjoy the ultimate "classical" strategy game and the ultimate "modern" strategy game at the same time!

That's cool. Brings back memories. I wish I could play chess with the Warcraft characters as pieces on my computer.

On a related note, anybody else picking up Starcraft two at some point?
i picked it up Tuesday when it came out, been really happy with it so far, finished the campaign and got into the platinum 2v2 league. i played the chess map once with my bro but somehow it glitched and some illegal moves were made. its pretty cool when you zoom out and stuff you can actually see the whole board, flip, pan, etc.. but it is still buggy.
checkmate gets the king nuked =)
Well cool, I'm going to buy it this upcoming Friday so if anybody from this site wants to get together for some matches or custom games I would be all for that.

Unfortunately, the latest patch to the beta locked out Mac users temporarily; I'll try to get a pic later, but if you look up "chesscraft" on youtube (of course), you can see it in action.
