i would like to keep track of my own games. is there a program to do so? f.ex. i want to know if i fare better with 1. e4 or 1. d4 or if i better go for a caro-kann or petroff-defense. i would like to have a software that measures my performance with different openings, so i know where to focus in the future.

Pretty much any chess database program should provide that feature. The game exlorer reature here also proved the basic stats, though, in looking at mine just now,  now all my games are reflected and filtering of the games is minimal.

Thanks for your answer. Would you recommend a particular software for that case?

I use SCID  vs PC but there is other software out there too.

You get the statistics by using the Windows > Tree option. It will give you the statistics on the currently opened database, so you will need a database with games in it.

You can also open a database in Tree view. That is in the first menu where you open a database regularly.
