Striped color squares in Arena Chess?

With "Show Attacked Pieces" enabled in the Arena Chess app, I'm guessing colored squares mean something like the following.

YELLOW: Caution!...the piece is at risk even though defended, and an exchange might not be advantageous.

GREEN: Notice!...under attack but threat is low as the piece is well-defended, or an exchange would be favorable.

RED: Warning!...the piece is not sufficiently defended, is hanging or most likely to be captured.

But what do these colors indicate when diagonally striped?

I'm not sure - My version isn't doing that. Is this Arena for Windows? Also, which version of Arena?

I'm using v3.5.1 for Windows. I don't understand why the feature of showing attacked pieces does not work for you. Did you right-click anywhere on the board and select "Show attacked pieces"?

Yeah, I can get the colored squares for the attacked pieces, but they're solid colors, not hatched. It's possible that the hatched feature was removed in the Linux version, idk.

I think you're generally right about the meaning of the colors, I just don't know what the hatching might mean.

OK, I had to boot into Windoze and pull up ver 3.5.1 and play around with it. I think a cross-hatched square means that the piece on that square is not helping to protect one of its own attacked pieces. Conversely, a solidly colored square means that the piece on that square is helping to protect one of its own attacked pieces.

Yeah, they got rid of the cross-hatching in my Linux version of Arena. Maybe it was too confusing, or maybe it didn't convey very useful info, idk.

I enabled the feature and replayed a game, observing the situation each time a square lit up with a color. Striped red appeared when an undefended queen was attacked, also when a king was checkmated. So maybe you are correct.

I read a chessbase article that in its software, the three colors referred only to the severity of the attack. Too bad Martin Blume is inaccessible. The e-mail address he posts at his site is non-functional. Sigh!
