you're indeed missing something very important which is analyzing your mistakes and losses. this is one of the few advices that work on all levels.
"What helped you break through a plateau?"
it actually depends on the level, so like if 2000-2200, they may need some opening theory and endgame to progress, but in your case, you just need to play games and analyze them afterwards especially the ones you lost. I'm guessing you're making the same mistakes over and over again which is why you aren't improving
"How should I structure my practice to actually improve?"
most importantly, play + analyze, and you can add solving puzzles and watching some youtube to learn ideas (which you are already doing, so just continue)
"Any specific habits or resources you recommend?"
don't pay for any books or courses, I don't think it's worth it right now. The most important thing is just to play chess when you enjoy it and stopping when you don't feel like it.
also you may listen to the many advices that's gonna be posted afterwards except from @LunarLightning cuz he hacked the system to get 2600 and doesnt really know how to play chess
Hey everyone,
I’ve been playing chess regularly and really enjoying the game, but I feel like I’ve hit a plateau. No matter how much I play, my rating isn’t improving consistently. Some days I win a lot, but then I lose just as many games right after.
Here’s what I’m currently doing:
Playing daily games and rapid games
Solving puzzles occasionally
Watching a few YouTube tutorials
Still, I feel like I’m missing something important in my improvement journey.
So I wanted to ask:
👉 What helped you break through a plateau?
👉 How should I structure my practice to actually improve?
👉 Any specific habits or resources you recommend?
I’m really motivated to get better and would appreciate any tips or guidance from more experienced players here.
Thanks in advance! 🙌
