Actually, post #2 and #3 were alluding to the fact that trades of equal material often have more to it than you realize, i.e. they're not pointless

For instance, it's often a good idea to trade when one is being attacked or under some spacial cramp.  A bishop for knight trade may be beneficial in closed positions, while a knight for bishop trade may be beneficial for open positions, etc.  Those are just the basic ideas behind trades in general that I could think off the top of my head.

I my first post i attempted to explain i was talkin about suicide (mindless trade with examples) in apose to 'sacrafice' for an advantage disapointly but expected there is a flow of trollo

however i did explain further explanation would be given if needed

all this is in the first post man

I think there is a subtle undercurrent of racism at work in this thread as well.  The OP is being attacked since he is a black "Ali G" type Englishman.

On topic:

People trade pieces for a wide variety of reasons that have nothing to do with cowardice or death-wish.

Here are a few possibilities:

1) Perhaps your Queen is more active than theirs? Then swapping them off will reduce your activity more than it reduces their... a net gain for them.

2) Perhaps your Queen is one of your few active pieces, while they have several well-placed pieces. Then a swap will leave the majority of your army passively placed.

3) Perhaps they only have a good square available for one of their two Rooks (or Knights). Then trading off the other one makes sure that they won't get stuck baby-sitting a piece that has no future.

4) Perhaps the majority of their Pawns are on one color? Then they can trade off the Bishop of that color, to make sure that they don't get stuck with a Bishop that is boxed-in by its own Pawns.

5) Perhaps your Queen has moved five times while theirs has moved only once? By trading them off, they eliminate your Queen and five moves, in return for their Queen and one move... a net gain of four moves.

3 minutes of my life I will never get back.  I know a guy that will sacrifice to a pawn/rook endgame everytime.  Only time in my life I saw a game where ranks 3,4,5, and 6 where void of peices yet we both had our Rooks and 5 pawns each.

Ive been given a similar response regarding one of the examples u given.

a kinda 'what u cant play without it' thing.

well from my opinion each piece has its use and if my opponent deldues himself into beliving i cant play without my queen (something which was stated to me before in such a situation) in an even match and trades his with my with no apparent advantage or meaning.

It seems spitful a kinda ur not invincible either often followed by disconections. ty for ur post i still remain unconvinced of its use in an even match.

an example. im sure we all know 4 move checkmate. lets say u go firs and ur starting the whole 4 move checkmate thing. not paying attention and then next thing u know its not checkmate ur queens ran into a trap and my knight kills her. next move white bisop kills my knight then i kill ur bishop.

thats the kidna pointless spite im talking about but again ty for post

Try going to your local county lock-up for a while.  inmate's in general like to keep thier materail in play and will even decline capturing clearly hung pieces in favor of play and mounting pressure/complexity.  When you come out, I gaurentee your rating will jump a least few hundred points.

Hmmmm that Rook has not meet with a Royal Bishop.

And my mating pattern is with Rooks which i call the RoyalBishop,

my opponents get confused on my skills with my favorite piece.

I have mated several players ugly and in rare positions with Rooks.
