Should Kasparov be supported in his bid to run FIDE? By all accounts he is very likely to lose regardless, and his post-chess career will continue its path of diffidence, odd tangential projects, and a sense of bewilderment.

Usually when WCs hang it up they lead peaceful lives. Karpov, Spassky, Botvinnik...all of the guys went or are going quietly into the good night, enjoying their laurels and the respect they earned.

But Gary wants to run FIDE. He wants to take over a large, corrupt, generally ineffective organization from a leader who is wealthy and comically crazy...but who has kept FIDE afloat with huge injections of his own cash.

Gazza doesn't have huge injections of cash for FIDE. His presidency looks to be a lot like his WC tenure...loud, filled with bluster and promises, some brilliance, but ultimately...what?

Support Gazza? Maybe just End FIDE.

>What has Paul Gascoigne got to do with this?<

The same relevance as Edith Piaf.
