Well... it theoretically could, if we got rid of the electoral college system. But even if we just looked at the popular vote, chess has such a huge advantage that it's practically impossible for chess960 to catch up in the next, like, 10 minutes.
Sorry dude, but chess already has over 300 electoral votes. I'm as mad as you are - I also wanted the other guy to win, but there's nothing we can do about it at this point. Guess we just have to endure having to play chess for the next 4 years.
