I wonder if you know its possible to have all whites or all blacks in a tournament run by swiss pairing rules?  Surprised

The USCF rules say that no player may have the same color more than 2 rounds in a row. I would imagine this rule is observed outside the United States as well as it appears extremely unfair to allow other wise.

I don't know if it is possible to have all Whites ot all Blacks in a tourn, but i do know it is possible to have 3 out of 4 in a 4 round tourn. as i have been playing for over 35 years and have had such several times.

I was a certified TD myself and know its possible to have all whites or all blacks in a swiss tourney, I say "possible" but its VERY unlikely. When you TDs cant figure it out (how its possible) just let me know and I will tell you. Smile

This is why its better to have an odd number of rounds, then one white or black more is the norm, with an even number its very possible to get 2 more whites or 2 more blacks. Ofcourse the players getting 2 more whites never complain.

I've very rarely given, or seen other TDs give, three consecutive blacks. It can happen. Upsets (lower rateds winning or drawing) always have the potential to play havoc with Swiss pairing rules.

I'm not sure if this post is still active or not. I was paired by my TD as black 5 times in a row. I would have been paired the 6th as black but my friend a master saw what was going on and really let the TD have it. I evidently got white. What's strange to me is the USCF said and did nothing about this TD as he is always doing things like this. I purchased a copy of the USCF official rules 6th edition and am studying it. He no longer pulls these type of incidents with at least since I'll quote a rule. Thimking of starting my own chess club.
