Tactics / tactics trainer

I switched tactics trainer over to unrated, and I really like it a lot better as I don't have to look at the clock and I'm not thinking about whether I'm making points or losing points. But I've noticed I'm seeing more puzzles repeating and the puzzles seem easier. When you're doing tactics trainer unrated, are there just a limited number of lower rated exercises? Thanks.

Yeah that's a bug that's been reported on before.  Since we're moving onto v3, I wouldn't expect it to be fixed.  Speaking of V3, have you tried the TT over there yet?  Some cool new features including the ability to review problems by category.

Does anyone know why you lose points for taking too long in tactics trainer even if you get it right?

Some of the positions are in a middle game where you're going to be taking your time or does it just confirm that speed chess is 99.9% tactics?

The standard wisdom is that the TT measures your ability to recognize patterns, not calculate, so time is an important factor.  They've taken so much flak over this that it has been changed in V3.  You will no longer lose points for a correct answer no matter how long it takes; you may not gain any if you take too long, but you won't lose any either.

chesskid.com already does this.  You get at least one point if you get the tactic correct.  The ratings at chesskid.com are inflated however, by about 400 points over ratings at chess.com.  At his current levels on chess.com and chesskid.com, my son says that the tactics on chesskid.com are actually much tougher than the ones here, and it's not as if he's doing easy ones here as his Tactics Trainer rating just crossed 2450.

If chess.com wants to keep TT ratings levels as they are now while not penalizing slow correct answers, they will have to crank up the difficulty of their puzzles considerably.

It's me again.

My free trial membership has run out so I've upgraded for the tactics trainer. I'm still losing points for taking too long when I get it right. What's this V3 you're talking about?

I'd say Chess.com have got it just about right for difficulty wise. I've got lots of chess apps on my phone and on some of them I beat the computer at the most advanced difficulty setting available where as here I'm struggling to beat the computer on ~1600 hard mode.

Amilton asked

What's this V3 you're talking about?

Version 3 of chess.com.  Now that you're a premium member you can try it, although it's not quite ready for release.  Down by the green pawn?  "Try the new Chess.com!"

amilton542

What do you mean, "Down by the green pawn?"

I can't find it.

baddogno

Maybe you're on mobile or something, but on my computer there is a green pawn at the bottom of every page.  Next to it is this:
