Is it? We already knew that NN can be strong enough to win against the strongest AB engines even if chess’s nature is less strategic than Go’s. And AlphaZero wasn't even optimized for chess, and it was even just a "small" side project.
But I also thought there would be more attention. LC0 is open, free and the only noteworthy NN chess engine that it is available. And we saw that it is far from being perfect. It blundered a lot, and the endgame and tactical positions are clearly in Stockfish’s favor. And wouldn't it be nice if Stockfish could also be improved? We saw some weaknesses, for example the pawn structure, and maybe there are some ways to improve that.
