Use addart.. it's a firefox plugin that changes banner ads into images from art galleries.
The ads on this site SUCK!!

Don't be so stingy just get a membership and quit complaining pal. When you waste bandwidth with this topic it only makes the situation worse.
Your rude.

Suprises me someone would actually complain about ads on a site that gives so much for free. Two solutions: Buy a very reasonably-priced membership, or deal with the ads.
Your redundant.

You don't like being tricked into stuff: well they tricked you to write this log.Hmmm...
Your rude.

omg your all a bunch of dum@ss retards he said he didnt want to be annoyed into doing it
You learned reading comprehension. Thank you.

I don't have a memebership and I'm perfectly happy dealing with ads as a consequence. This an excellent site, and ads are needed to run it and it's server/resources in this day and age.
Remember, Chess.com don't control the ads 100%, most are done by Google. Any offensive ones are blocked asap. Quit complaining. Jeez.
I don't mind ads either. However, like Eric said, report those that jump out on your screen and disrupt what you are doing or ads with sound.

It cost chess.com money for you to make this post. They work hard to keep this site running and deserve to be paid for it. If you don't like being annoyed into doing something then leave the site. You choose to come here to play and you choose to be annoyed by the adds.

Again, I don't mind ads. Also, I like chess.com, but like Eric said, those ads that pop out on your screen or that have audio are ads that CHESS.COM doesn't even want on their site.

So, let me see if I've got this right:
1. Buying membership will solve.
2. Any number of software solutions exist for non-payers.
That's everyone covered then .... your point was?
Oh yes! you're just too annoyed to help yourself. Way to go, Slick!

I think 90% of the replies on this post missed the point. And no... I'm not a premium member nor do I plan to be. Eric runs a truly wonderful site and provides a LOT of content for free. I really appreciate all the work that Eric and staff put into this site. I have no issue with having ads on the site and I hope that they generate millions of dollars in revenue for chess.com as the site truly deserves it. The issue that I do have as well as the original poster I believe is with the ads that suddenly expand and take practically the whole screen covering up everything that you're trying to view. These ads are embedded into the page so that a pop up blocker won't stop them as there isn't an actual new window being created for the ad to be displayed in. I feel like being told to buy a membership simply to get rid of the annoying ads is not a solution at all for like I said above, I have no issue with having ads on the site. It would be even better if the ads were keyed to the content of chess.com (i.e. chess related ads). Eric, how about some filters so that at least if we're going to see ads, we see ones that might actually entice us to click.
Initially, had I decided to write more about this topic, this would have been akin to what I would have written.

One more non-paying member who doesn't have a problem with the ads.
It's a great site. You don't like it? Go somewhere else. You don't want to go somewhere else? Then quit whining and play chess.
You aren't a paying member either.

FYI - there should be NO popups, popouts, or audio ads on the site. if you see one, PLEASE use the "Report Ad" link so that we can complain to the ad network and have that ad removed. i personally don't like those kinds of ads when i use other sites, so i don't want them on my site :)
we do want people to subscribe, but we don't want to make them angry with irritating ads :)
Ok, thanks for clarifying Eric. How about irritating people though? Just joking, you don't have to answer that :)

I understand this site needs ads. However, I was going to become a premium member until the ads started to pop up in my face when I was playing. The pop up ads is what made me decide not to become a premium member. I know they will go away as a premium member, but the pop ups are rude and are trying to get you to up grade your membership. Once the pop up ads go away then I might up grade. Im not going to be trick into or annoyed into upgrading.
This was my point too.

Exactly the answer I was hoping to hear, Erik. Thanks for being so attentive. Keep it up and I might just have to subscribe ;)
