What an insightsful and detailed post
The amount of engine users on this site is unprecedented.
No amount of technology can completely eliminate it. The only way you can play chess with the peace of mind that you aren't competing with an engine is to play in carefully monitered games in over the board tournaments. It isn't just chess but every other game played by computers.
The two time world backgammon champion Bill Robertie has warned everyone to never play for money online as it is impossible to stop cheating.

This reminds me of playing "Red Alert" on-line years ago. Usually a single tank rolled up and destroyed my base within seconds. Everyone was using a cheat that revealed the full map without the need to actually explore the terrain. So knowing my location they could immediately destroy my base before I had built up any strength.
I used to wonder what sort of satisfaction people get by "winning" outside of the rules of the game?
You can generally tell from some of the inhuman moves when someone is using an engine against you. As it happens I don't think anyone on chess.com has "cheated" against me yet. Not, mind you, that anyone needs to cheat to bneat me at bullet and 10-minutes a side!

Chess.com takes cheating very seriously and has banned even titled players for it in the past.
Having said that, accusations of cheating should not be made in the public forums - instead, please report suspected cheaters to the Support team via Help -> Contact.
Discussion about methods of cheating and questions about why someone would cheat are also not to be conducted in the public forum, but in the Cheating Discussion club - please do so in there.
I am also locking this thread - thanks!
