The catalan opening

Hello! I started to read "My System" of Nimzowitsch and I wonder if the Catalan is good for what the book says about centre? In the catalan you move pawns 3 times at the beginning (c4, d4 and g3) and the book says that moving pawns 2+ times at the opening is not optimal, and also the book claims that moving the a,b,g,h pawns at the beginning is not optimal aswell. What do you think? Regards

The catalan is a very strong opening, however it is very theory dense. You could definately try it, but there is probably better things to put your time toward.

I've been using the catalan quite a number of times lately but chess.com is not giving me credit in my books. The catalan is very similar to the pirc or chezpirc checkpirc and both are easy to use with great results. If you like catalan try a perc or modified perc bc that can be played as white or black. U can play Catalan but the thing is that it's very very theoretical..i mean it will take months to know the theory...if u are good at remembering theory then u may go for it.....though i think u should try keeping Catalan as a secret weapon.

Yes it is theoretical, but you can play it fine if you follow the principles of controling the center and developong the pieces naturally along with the advancment on the queenside, even without knowing much of the theory in my opinion
