And Harvey Fierstein too... I just wanna be loved, is that so wrong??

Simple point: did anyone EVER have a nemesis as karpov was to kasparov? Those two stood heads and shoulders above all comers for years and years and how many matches? Kasparov was the man! And all of thouse countless draws and numerous loses to karpov would have depressed his rating somewhat. There is no analogous foe for carlsen. Lets revist this after he becmes world champion and then holds the title for 15 years.

Maybe so, but Harry Weinstein is the name Garry Kasparov was born with.
Foek is right and I misread that. My most humble apologies.
I guess this wasn't enough.
I am deeply, deeply sorry that I misread that. My carelessness is unforgivable. I can only hope that somehow you will recognize the penitent soul in need of mercy and redemption and remember that he who shows foregiveness will himself be dealt with in kindness and grace.
My abject apologies cannot come close to wiping away the stain of my transgressions. I am on my knees begging for your foregiveness.
sarcasm...
Nice of you to join us, Mr. Holmes.
Kasparov teach Carlsen in chess, so it doesn't matter if Carlsen will be the highest chess rating in history.
Well, tournament's over, Magnus Carlsen finished +3 =7, rated 2845 according to FIDE.
So Garry, you're safe, disaster averted. For now.
capablanca and alekhine were better than kassparov and karlsen ... remember they didn't have chess engines nor life complexity
Carlsen will break 2851, but if he doesn't win the Candidates Tournament and then the World Championship match, what does it mean?
Karpov and then Kasparov dominated from 1974 through 2005. Title matches, tournament and supertournament wins, and ratings. Carlsen has a long way to go.
Carlsen doesn't play chess, as we learnt on another thread, so this is all irrelevant.
He does.

He doesn't play on chess.com. Then it doesn't count.
And @ Hedgehog, don't make remarks about mental hospitals: it just shows your ignorance; a lot of good people have to use them when troubles bring them down.

Better move to Wyoming Hedgehog :)
If you mouse over you see that DC has, head and shoulders above the competition, the highest mental illness rate.
4% of the US has serious mental illness?
this discussion will be like comparing Pele to Maradonna to Messi. Great in their own time and allmost impossible to compare. If Pele was born on the same day as Messi, would he be better now than Messi? Answer: worse, because Pele wouldve died in a tragic car accident at age 14. Fate, genes and environment are crazy things.

Of course DC is the highest - that's the heart of the federal government, the largest single collection of morons, sociopaths, sadists, megalomaniacs, passive-aggressives, paranoids, and kleptomaniacs in human history.
There was Rome!
I bet there are a few russian politicians who wish this was true. I believe several years ago Kasparov announced his retirement from championship chess. Although i believe he is spending much of his time in politics now i am glad he is still active in promoting chess. I think he should always be considered a great champion and he has been great for chess. When he was champion he faced the best opponents around (including deep blue) if only Fischer could had been so bold.

LOL at the first line, excellent observation. And some very good points about the statesmanship for chess the former WC has shown.
Aronian - who could be considered his "nemesis" in terms of their lopsided score, even though Lev racked up most of his wins as Magnus was younger and coming up
Carlsen has in all 6 wins and 4 losses against Aronian over the years so it's hardly a lopsided score to Aronian's advantage, even if the latter did slightly better when Carlsen was 15-16 years old.
kasparov dominated chess with more than 50 points, carlsen is just ahead of Aronian by 30 points, just wait untill carlsen gets over 2900 , then you can say he s better than kasparov.
If only Kasparov's technology back in the old days was not chess-like, but more as if, "Yay! The computer is finally invented! Now I can save my chess files! But I need a chess computer or application, don't I?"
