this discussion will be like comparing Pele to Maradonna to Messi. Great in their own time and allmost impossible to compare. If Pele was born on the same day as Messi, would he be better now than Messi? Answer: worse, because Pele wouldve died in a tragic car accident at age 14. Fate, genes and environment are crazy things.

Eh....simple.

Pele > Maradonna > Messi

Everyone knows that.

Kasparov > Messi > Pele > Maradonna

What about Cruijff?  Tongue out

Oh, and you are forgiven from the very moment you offer(ed) your sincere apologies.

Strange, I was listing the order of their ability as chessplayers.  Didn't know Pele was that good at chess.

And anyway the end of Kasparov is not near, it is V.  Or ov.  Maybe even rov.

ClavierCavalier

How is Kasparov pronounced?  I think I heard him once say Ka spar ov, but I usually hear Kas pa rov, so I'm not sure.  As for the vowel sounds, I don't know phonenitics enough to write it!

@ cavalier

You are correct. It is ka-SPAR-ov. I had a Russian fellow correct on that once.

Also told me Petrosian was peh-TRAH-see-an as well.

Aronian - who could be considered his "nemesis" in terms of their lopsided score, even though Lev racked up most of his wins as Magnus was younger and coming up

Carlsen has in all 6 wins and 4 losses against Aronian over the years so it's hardly a lopsided score to Aronian's advantage, even if the latter did slightly better when Carlsen was 15-16 years old.

Um, no.  In fact, Aronian won 6 games before Carlsen won his first.  He leads in their career meetings 12-5 with 16 draws.     Three of those wins and a number of draws have been at non-classical controls.

None of those numbers are anywhere close to be correct. It's 6-4 to Carlsen with classical time controls, if rapid/blitz/blindfold is included (something I wouldn't do) Aronian has 14-11 in wins (with 29 draws).

Do you know Alkehine?  At first I thought it was a very strange French name, but then I read that he was naturally a Russian.

Was al-eh-keen, if I remember.

Alekhine !

As long as we're on this, is it Walter Browne or Walter Brown? I've seen it both ways. I think Chess Life has him listed as Brown. Oddly enough, I think I've seen it Browne more times than Brown

chesspooljuly13

Have to figure Chess Life's got it right or WB would correct them. So, it's Garry (not Gary) Kasparov, and Walter Brown? I believe Garry's real name is Garik; at least that's what I read

'' Chess-Life ''  is little better than toilet-paper. Written by imbeciles & unworthy of serious attention. :))

chesspooljuly13

Irregardless, you'd think Walter Brown would correct them since his name appears at the front of the magazine every issue under USCF staff. I like some of the features in Chess Life but like New in Chess better. Used to subscribe to British Chess Magazine and liked that too but not as much as NIC

chesspooljuly13

I think people have mistakenly been adding an "e" onto Walter Brown's name for years. Either that or he doesn't care that his name and e-mail address are misspelled on the USCF directory

If you plan on using '' Chess-Life '' as your authoritative source on all-things-chess then are very misguided person... Smile

Have read better high-school magazines.

I know you're just looking for a fight after getting slapped around by those old timers, but Chess Life does feature columns by at least four GMs every issue, as well as chess trainer of the stars, Bruce Pandolfini

I thought you were a writer yourself ? Denying the truth now or have you  never actually '' read '' it ??

It's woeful..

chesspooljuly13

Brown's e-mail address lists his name without an "e." As I said before, if it's incorrect, you'd think he would ask them to fix it.

What's your evidence that it's spelled Browne? Or are you just trolling and spoiling for a fight after the old timers slapped you around in that other thread? lol

chesspooljuly13

Denying what truth? I'm not saying it's a great magazine but it's better than you're claiming. It's also free with a USCF membership, which is required to play in tournaments
