The exchange

Hello my lovelies.

I've had a couple of interesting games recently where either myself or my opponant have been the exchange up. What's made it more interesting is that the board has been quite clear, say, B+K+pawns vs. R+K+pawns. I find this interesting, because I think it might mark a point where a player stops thinking so materialistically, and starts thinking a bit more positionally, and may be a small step to becomming a stronger player. I've read, for example, that a bishop, used properly, is a mighty piece, and apparently Bobby Fischer was a famous exponant.

I was just wondering if anyone knows any interesting GM games won from being the exchange down, expecially from relatively simple positions described above.

Cheers,

ED.

Some people lame out and think that now they are up an exchange, they have a "won game." But only too often an exchange does not guarantee anything. And if you learn how to deal with these odd imbalanced material situations, you can really improve yourself quite a bit as a player.

I agree! I think it forces you to be resourceful. I've just played this in a ten minute game, so it's not as good as correspondance, but I just really wanted to sac the exchange! He blundered the queen, but it was still fun:
