Since when one needs an OTB rating to know about chess history?

You may not play football but that doesn't stop a fan from knowing the stats and who may be the best player of all time.

Fischer of course, even though everone yells Paul Morphy. And about only OTB rating answerability, that's just racist dude.

It's stupid and trollish, but definitely not racist, dude.

Dude, my guess is he put that so he could get serious answers. (Which makes no sense) It is now are job to NOT give him serious answer.

BTW I changed my mind, I forgot the Pillsbury Dough Boy, man that guy could play chess when he got on a roll.

Another vote for Fischer.

... or maybe Napoleon Bonaparte instead. He was a chess player. And he was pretty great, if getting right in everybody's face is a sign of greatness.

He used to bring out both his Knights on the first two moves. Cavalry... advance!

What is a OTB Rating?

Possibly Fischer but his peak was only for a year or so. Kasparov is right up there. Not Morphy; nowhere near, although Fischer was besotted by him. Tarrasch, Schlechter maybe, Karpov, Rubinstein. Capablanca was one of the greatest. Not Alekhine or Emm. Lasker for me ... they flourished when there wasn't much competition and also other factors come into play. Also there is Staunton to consider. It seems unfair that many commentators only consider the post-Staunton era.

He means an "over-the-board" chess grade or rating, for non-internet cometitive games.

What is the most beautiful postage stamp ever produced in the world? Only other postage stamps need answer.

Why in the world would someone discount Morphy and wonder why no one considered Staunton?  Alekhine and Em. Lasker flourished when there was little competition, but Tarrasch, Capablanca and Rubinstein are candidates?  I'm confused.

Oh, I don't have an OTB rating....sorry.  Bye.

Fischer was the "Dan Marino" of chess.  Overrated!

Best player ever was Kasparov

I do have an OTB rating - it fluctuates between 2050 and 2140, depending on whether I'm in the middle of a streak or slump.
