Like leagues, where you are in the path is more a function of the amount of puzzles you do. As to difficulty, players at lower ratings have puzzles that at just as difficult for their strength.

In settings on the ‘feature’ there are only two options … collect puzzle points and turn off timer.

If you mean the coach. It was my understanding that isn't currently enabled. If you have an old version of the app you might have to update.
4.7.1 I believe shouldn't have it
I think it’s a cool feature, I enjoy how you progress and I think the aspect of “levels” is pretty cool. And luckily, even if you don’t like the feature you can return to the old version
Too gimmicky, I prefer the old rating system so you can see how you’re improving or not. I’d prefer to go back to the old format.

You can by clicking the Settings icon on the feature to toggle it off
