Maybe you can ignore statements like this and still put a man upon a pedastal but to me they are vile statements that have influenced other people to believe those things. That is why I believe the chessplayer should be distinguished from the person filled with such hate.
I love Bobby Fischer the chessplayer.

Ah, ok, my semi-evil comment was Austin Power's schtick poking fun at Lola's use of "quasi-proof." Had nothing to do with Fischer.

so you are only allowed to "mouth off" if you play chess on this web site ?

If you did not post any of your drivel, then nobody would know that you are intellectually challenged.
In the 1972 WCC Fischer purposely throws the first match(which was an OBVIOUS draw) ,then he doesn't even show up for the second match. Then, in the next few matches, Bobby starts playing openings he had never even used in tournament before.
To say Fischer was anything less than a chess MASTERMIND is an understatement. He started studying chess religiously at age 7, his mother would even take him to psychiatrists , because she thought he was insane, because ALL he did was study chess. The Drs would say stuff like, "there are worse things a 7 year old could be obsessed with".
He was U.S. national champ by the time he was 15, he then went on to win 8 U.S. titles. In all 8 championships, he only lost 3 games.
Fisher was heavily self-taught(especially early on), if he hadda lived in today's information highway, he'da probably been rated 3500(or some ridiculous MEGA rating) by the time he was 25.

Aaaah, Bobby Fischer! As in with couch potatos watching football games on their huge theater screen TV's, there are many here that judge the man, instead of his chess games. Creative or not, he beat the Soviets at their game, practically by himself. Not many people can claim that. Was he troubled, eccentric, maybe even a little, "tetched in the head", probably; but that does not take away from his accomplishments, no matter what the small minded say. But one of the things that bothered him most, was that many wanted to get something from him.
As to the football watchers, too many are couch potato referees, same with how many of these in the chess world judge Bobby Fischer.

Notice that it is almost always players with very low ratings that have blithe opinions about masters. Strange that all this expertese at evaluating masters, past and present, doesn't translate to ability to play well.

He may have held opinions that were at odds with the cherished opinions of others.
Did he break any laws ? Not to my knowledge.
Was he insane ? Definetly not.
His eccentricity made him a figure of ridicule by small-minded ne'er do wells with nothing better to do in their sad, pathetic worthless lives.
He may have said some things that many people found disagreeable.
Some people have said much, much, much worse things.
A liitle bit of perspective goes a long way.
The world is a poorer place without this amazing chess player.
