The Quart-Grip?

Hello chess.com,

Has anyone heard of the "quart-grip"?

I read the comments to the following game on a different site and I read this, "Good Evening: Kmoch referred to that curious King side pawn formation after 7.f4 as a "quart-grip," and you can see how potent it can become if your advanced pawns have already crossed the 5th rank. Aside from suffocating the Black pieces on that side of the board, White can always force a passed pawn, by sacrifice if needed."

The game:

I have never heard the word quart-grip, has any one else? Please show games or examples of this in action

PLEASE and THANKS!

Never heard of the term, and it's a little early to be talking about passed pawns on move 7, but yes, that's a known formation and a useful attribute of that formation.

I found  the glossary of terms from Hans Kmoch's Pawn Power in Chess,

"Quart Four horizontal friendly pawns.
Quartgrip Prototype of the siege. A formation of four vs. four pawns in which the shorter frontspan constitutes a great advantage."

Oh yeah, Kmoche's crazy terms tongue.png

They never became mainstream, but it's a very good book.
