ADEMAS LA PROTAGONISTA NO SOLO HABLA INGLES SINO TAMBIEN EN "ARGENTINO", PORQUE LA VI EN UN REPORTAJE Y DICE PALABRAS COMO "MORFAR", LE GUSTAN LAS EMPANADAS ,EL ASADO Y LOS "CHURROS CON DULCE DE LECHE". VAMOS ARGENTINA TODAVIA !!!

I guess that's plausible.

Wrote on some things you may have missed in the show!

Anyone else notice that in the final scene in the park, Beth is dressed like a pawn or maybe bishop? She’s dressed in all white, and has a white beanie on her head with a white Pom Pom?

So is she a bishop or a pawn?

The white was obviously symbolic as she overcame all the Russians, who all wore dark, dreary colors. But maybe she was a piece, too, at the end. The hat might have made her a few possible pieces. I would think a Queen would be most appropriate.

Yes. I wrote about it here:

She's a queen that is free to roam the world, as far as she wants in any direction she wishes. She starts the show as a pawn and turns into a queen. That's also what happens in the final game. She sacrifices a queen to create a new queen. This may be symbolic of her mother dying and her being a pawn that finally makes it to the top.

Interesting assumption....Fantastic show!

just released interview with Garry Kasparov- who describes his role (and clarifies some of the conjecture made here)

I did not see much of the symbolism that  elie222 writes of. Symbolism can be found most anywhere - some of it cleverly imagined. Certainly the show is often subtle with hidden representations - but I’m not so sure  all was planned  as he depicts . Good stuff though.

I thought it was spot on when she answered she likes chess because it is "beautiful". Non-chessplayers don't get this at all.

Agreed. Non-chess players definitely don’t get it and I think such a point is lost on many chess players. While, the game is often described in war terms, but I see chess as poetic. The magnificent tactics to position pieces, control squares, clear a file, force a trade, capture a piece, or force checkmate. Beautiful is the only appropriate word for a such well played games and tactics.

She IS dressed like a queen at the end.. I'm so glad I read these!! The show definitely draws you in with the story. But... there is hardly anything about the game!  I wish they made room for at least glimpses of a bit more actual chess!! At least a little. SOMETHING haha. Like.. I tried to watch the moves while she was at tournaments to see what she was doing.. its always just a bunch of fast clips and i even saw her take one of her own pieces a few times. UGH!!!! There is so much potential there for us chess nerds! Come on now. Half the fun is analyzing someone's game. Like maybe show some of the references they make on the actual board while she's playing... right!?  Wouldn't it be fun displaying some of her godly genius moves? What was the turning point of the game against Borgov? what was the winning move!? SHOW US DUDE. Or show us the mistakes she caught in the book since you made an entire thing about it. WHY DID THE DIRECTER DECIDE TO CUT OUT ALL OF THE CHESS RELATED PARTS ON A TV SERIES ABOUT CHESS!??!?!!??!?!

One thing for sure......Anya Taylor Joy did a superb job in the acting department.I've seen her in a few roles. The girl's got acting chops and has her own very interesting life story.

I see a long and well deserved career.

I was upset that a show called the Queen’s Gambit spent so much time focusing on the Sicilian. Otherwise it was OK.

The only scene I **truly** disliked was the one where she had her period after facing Townes. It was heavy-handed in the symbolism in a way I would expect someone in a freshman creative writing to write it. Girl meets boy, girl is attracted to boy and “becomes a woman.” Ugh. Nauseating.

I thought the actor for borgov did well
