What is happening at Blitz level on chess.com live?
On the 5/5 Blitz, I keep coming up against players who are rated 1400-1600 and their rating at the slower time control is often 1800, 1900 and in some cases 2000! They often produce games with 95%, even 98% accuracy and never seem to make any mistakes. (This was not the case in previous years on this site).
So these could be quite strong players who just have a lower Blitz rating, but why? In my experience they dont struggle with time keeping, because we are playing 5/5. So they really are just rated higher on other levels, playing much the same quality of chess.
Could it be that the Blitz level is filled up with many good players who dont play chess on slower time controls, and this means the field is deeper? That is one explanation.
Or I could mention the "ch" word.
I am sure there are people using engines (from time to time, chess.com tells me I was cheated and give me ratings points back). Not only that, there are a HEAP of people following the opening book moves (grand-master history) for the first 10-20 moves, so they never get into trouble in the opening stages. What is the point in that?!
A while back on chess.com I used to try out tricks and traps on Blitz and it used to work, but I dont even bother anymore. Nobody falls for them. I can barely play the kings gambit either. So many people seem to have "memorised" how to defend it
On chess.com, I struggle to stay at 1600 on the 5/5 Blitz. I went on to another site and played a few games and won them all, and was rated 1850.
The reason I bring this up is because I am trying to improve my rating (currently around 1750) and if I am up against a lot of people using grandmaster opening books for 20 moves, and "other" methods, plus the few honest players are rated 1900-2000 on other time control, then any progress I am making wont be noticeable.
You can't really compare sites, since different pools produce different ratings and some sites have a higher initial rating.
The site changed 10|0 from blitz to rapid back in September of last year and bumped ratings of rapid players up. A lot of people that really preferred blitz, likely switched over to 5|5, which may impact things somewhat.
That all said, if you suspect your opponents of using disallowed resources, you should just report and block them: https://support.chess.com/article/209-how-do-i-report-someone
While you have not mentioned the "ch-word" the implications are in the post and since that is not a subject allowed in the main forums. I'm locking. If you would like to discuss that part you should join the following club: https://www.chess.com/club/cheating-forum
