Thinking Moves ahead

It depends sometimes you just play positional, sometimes you want to make some tactical attack and then you plan a few moves ahead and of course when going to endgames you usually tkae some time and plan out alot of moves ahead.
I can barely plan where I'm going to make my first move. Let's not get carried away.
Derren Brown said that some Grand Masters can think 20 moves ahead, but that's just not possible. Personally, I hit the submit button and sometimes think O'bugger!

It's not only possible, but true.

I have at my profile a 14 moves combination from Steinitz,the first player who became world champion..Very deep and nice..I believe today's GM can thing 15-20 moves under some circumstances.

Me too, so I am not the only one.
I think about two but are you supposed to go through more and do you think about all pieces. I suppose I guess so but maybe patience is the problem.
I think two to three in advance. On good days, I can go up to five, but that's it.
I play but just for fun, how many moves to people plan ahead?
