So, I just got the message from chess.com that my account has been restricted due to bad sportsmanship and me aborting games. Well, it´s not me who aborts the games. The site decides to do this voluntarily while I am playing. It won´t let me move and then aborts the game. And now I´m the problem? They can´t be  serious.

SecretiveBlackout

Yeah, but that´s not the point. The site has issues and it just decides well, instead of fixing it we just gonna ban the account, even if it´s just for 24 hours. Too bad, once it was the best site on the internet.

CaracticusPotts: Just adressing the concrete issue. Not whining. Get your facts straight man.

Is your Internet usually always that unreliable, or only on here?

SecretiveBlackout

It only happens here. On other sites it works just fine.

CaracticusPotts: Do you have something to say on the topic? If not then bye. Troll.

Consider it like this: Everybody experiences trouble like yours on this website (as I've gathered so far in my short time on Chess.com). Treat it like an unwelcome surprise. Or like a natural disaster.

Or you could treat it like acne.

Or in an inconspicuous piece of furniture.

Aah, uploading your pictures don't work, formatting your texts don't work, I'm lost on all the things which actually work on here.

You play a lot of games. More than 31,000 in two years. I see 357 lost by abandonment -- about 1 in a hundred games.

And 770 won that way.

But most of your losses that way have come in the last month. 255 of them. Meanwhile, you won only 84 in that way in the last month. It seems likely that the proportions would remain more balanced if it was a problem caused by the site's servers.

It appears that something has changed. It seems most likely that the main problem is on your end. You should try some of the site's suggestions for reducing disconnections.

How do I fix my disconnect/lag issues?

If you are having frequent issues with disconnects or lag in your games, there are a few things you can try that can improve your connection.

  1. Clear your cookies and cache regularly! This is the most common fix for any issues of slowness on your computer. See the steps to clear your internet cache here. After you’ve done this, close all browser windows (not just a few tabs, the whole browser!) and re-open chess.com.
  2. Pause any downloads or uploads on your computer. If you are downloading a large file, this takes up bandwidth and can cause lag.
  3. Close any other browser tabs that are streaming content. Streaming video or music uses bandwidth just like downloading a large file does. If you’re having connection problems, try pausing your streaming while you play chess.
  4. Disable browser extensions. Sometimes these use a lot of memory, or alter the JavaScript or other files used by chess.com, or alter your connection in some way. It's best to disable them while playing!
  5. Check Task Manager to see if any programs are using up a lot of memory, and close them while you play chess.
  6. If you have a high number of browser tabs open, try closing all tabs except chess.com. Even if you aren’t streaming or downloading, each tab takes up some of your computer’s memory.
  7. Make sure your browser is updated to the most current version. If you are using Internet Explorer, try using Chrome or Firefox instead. Internet Explorer is no longer updated by Microsoft and many modern websites do not function correctly on Internet Explorer
  8. Try using a Wired Connection. Sometimes it is an unstable WiFi connection causing the issue. Try being closer to your router, or even using a wired connection.

If you are still having connection issues after all of the above, please contact your internet service provider. You may need a faster connection. Chess.com servers will cancel out up to 1000ms (1 second) of lag, but if your ping is much more than that you may have a hard time playing live chess.

To check your ping, type /ping in the Live chat

justbefair: Ok, tried your suggestions. I´ll see if this fixes it. Thanks.

My  theory is, there are too many unnecesary/complicated functions on site, and that it actually requires unreasonable amount of resources on players end to load it properly, so people with older computers just get lags and freezes.

I mean its chess, not some shooter-based fps game, this stuff really shouldnt be that hard, yet so many people downplay/deny the problem, but i know SB and happen to agree with justbefair, that this could be a technical issue on your side.

Are you playing with maybe a lot of tabs opened in browser? Do you use a free VPN maybe?

if the game is freezing completely(not just lagging),that looks to me more like a technical issue  on your PC. Maybe try optimizing for your PC performance? close apps, stop downloads etc.

But,about the abort problem, why would the site abort you if you still had connection? Like this is just weird. The VPN could cause this, but still...

btw for me, i dont get freezes but i do get small lags sometimes that make me move things to  wrong squares, but since my PC broke it could be my old laptops fault.

P.S. i just wanna say that its really fukked up, that they dont optimize for people with slow PCs.

You cant even play chess when your poor.
