This is one frustrating game.

still a newcomer, and playing either vs CPU or human.. results in me losing no matter what i've learned.. no matter the cpu's level.. 1-2 clever moves by the cpu and im stuck in the brain boggling situation, making me actually hate playing.. is this normal ?

well id say it's normal if your playing really advanced people, but if there not really advanced then maby your just not that good. and about the computer iv beeten it a couple times it's pretty hard, you should try another one.

The computer on easy is about a 1500 rank as it is. That's pretty advanced for beginners. I'd suggest playing other beginners as well.

If you're a beginner, I can understand how the game can be frustrating. Don't play against the computer at first - the computer will either play at a level which is too strong for you or else throw away all its pieces to let you win (depending on which computer you're playing and what level it's on). Playing against other beginners is good advice. Keep playing, read some chess books (lots of excellent titles can be recommended if you're interested), and eventually you'll be the one making those "1-2 clever moves".

Don't play computers.  Even on the easy levels they don't make the kinds of mistakes beginners can exploit.  Find people on this site with a low rating (sub 1000) and play them.  Go to your local chess club - they will find you a matching opponent.

why? set engine to fixed 2-ply search and turn off search extensions. [use a program that allows you to do that - crafty [unix-linux-windows], rebel [windows only;  standalone rebels work only on windows 95 to 98 - definitely not on xp], ...

2-ply: engine will see immediate fork, en prise etc but nothing more

I would hate to know the exact number of games I've actually lost.. wether online, vs a computer program or OTB, I've lost countless times... And even though its frustrating, I've always BELIEVED I could be good if I keep working at it. That belief and the love for the game has kept me going no matter what!

Just hang in there man... I sucked for a very long time... Good luck even coming close to losing as many games as I have =P
