THIS really bothers me about puzzles

When you fail a puzzle, it shows you it’s difficulty rating ... when you succeed at a puzzle, it DOESN’T! Why? Are we only suppose to feel bad about failing a 600 rated puzzle but are left in limbo wondering if the puzzle we just solved was possibly 2000+??? Come on!

Is it fair to speculate that this is a UI bug? They meant to always show the difficulty rating but messed up.

I see the Puzzle rating on pass on the website, but you have to have your settings to stop after each puzzle, not move to the next puzzle.

Oh, and let’s not forget that if you fail at a puzzle you lose up to -15 points, but if you solve a difficult puzzle in seconds you’ll be lucky to get 9 points.

Although I do appreciate the puzzles because they’re really helpful, they can be frustrating

you can get more low rated puzzles than high rated

solving a same rating doesnt make your go up because you should be able to solve

Yes. Feel very bad!

It’s frustrating, indeed. I’ve stopped using the app because of this. On the website I get all info, like puzzle rating and expected avg time, regardless of failing or not, which is what I use now (but there they don’t show spent time...).

You can get few points on resolved puzzle if you solve it outside the expected time. You can get more points if you solve faster. Likewise, I believe you can lose more points if you take lot of time and guess it wrong. And I noticed you get some reward for guessing the first few moves, but being wrong about the rest. I haven’t totally figured the puzzle rating out, so don’t take this as gospel, but there seems to be a punishment/reward system behind it.

Another way of finding out info on a puzzle is going to your puzzle history and select the puzzle. It can be interesting to see the discussion under each puzzle, but again, not available on the app. The chess.com team can definitely improve here, and be a bit more open on how the rating works (and perhaps add an option “pass” when you don’t know, so you won’t get punished too harshly for spent time.
