This site is messed up man...

Weird chess site.


People just quiting, this one guy literally deleted his account after 4 moves in with me, without losing.

Ratings are baffling and vary to the extreme in comparison to peoples skill.


For some reason every 2 players is disconnecting/reconnecting on me?


Common, how has this not been fixed before?
How do you people deal with it? :P 

The disconnecting/reconnecting happen because of a bad connection, it doesn't have to do anything with the site. I am constantly disconnecting because I mainly play from a mobile device.

I usually don't time out because I play long time controls

If you are on a computer simply go to the bottom and it should say "try the new chess.com"

Well I usually play on that other site that I can't mention because this is a for profit company (yay for relative lack of freedom of speech, only on the internet can a company actually limit free speech. Never been kicked out of a shop or a mall for mentioning the competitor! Worth thinking about.) and even though it doesn't even require registration it's still far less problematic in terms of reconnecting people, unbalanced ratings and what not. 

 

Walk into a restaurant with a bag of food from one of their competitors. Sit down at a table and start eating it with the bag on the table so people will know what it is. See what happens lol

Yeah but that would be the equivalent of hacking this server and imposing the other companies interface. This is a good point coming back to my post about learning patterns, the purpose of chess and developing your mind.

Had you paused and actually thought about what you just said as I suggested one should, you would have instead realised how inane that first idea of yours was and that the equivalence of the restaurant example would be walking into McDonalds and mentioning Burger King.

I'd say its better in general but this site has a much more active community, a lot more tools, if you're premium u get a lot more worth of it here and such. I was gonna switch but basically for now I'm not enjoying my games too much and I've also noticed that telling people to "stop disconnecting" sometimes works which as some other poster said, is weird. So meh and double meh.

I'm just being an ass. He/she was directing it to your advice but because I PM:ed Grace with something I'm now bugging him/her about that, fuck it I can't bother trolling too much , you're all very polite. 

But point still stands, I've joined that secret little big group. Or at least requested to join it so maybe some of it will be explained there. I guess people take it even less seriously on the other site which seems to be good.

Well it's the only place someone has the imperative to shut up based on arbitrary rules. I mean granted, there might be some nations around this planet where a company could actually force you to sign a document before entering their premise on what you can and can't say in it but not many would sign it. 

Then again, not many would give up their private photos in perpetuity, their bankaccounts, their most secret and private thoughts to some company without some serious pre-arrangements - unless it's on the internets ofcs.

Anyway, chess.com is a business. It makes sense to keep their competitor's names off of their forums. It's free advertising.

It's not necessary of course, but it makes sense.
