This website is an absolute joke

I build my way up to 1800 on tactics trainer.. now I log on and I've lost like 160 points because they keep giving me random problems at all ratings levels... I lose 15 points if I get a problem wrong that's 1300 and I get 1 point if I get it right.. then I get a 2000 problem and I'm not getting a huge bonus when I get it right anyway... You get 2-3 wrong and you're already in the hole 30-40 points.. This is insane and idiotic.

Thanks for wasting my time.

It is very frustrating. It is. I get angry a lot at it. But then I realized, the only way around it is to get better at tactics...which is what we are supposed to do anyway. I have some tactics software that has me rated at 2200. And you know what? It feels good, but I know it's a lie. When it's hard to make progress, it may very well be because it's somewhat accurate.

A couple of things to keep in mind. First, it's just a board game. It never has been nor will it ever be important. Secondly, it's just a measure or rating of a certain part of that board game. Facecrusher has seen the light. If it's really that important to you, just get better at tactics. What could possibly happen is that your rating will plummet, but you will actually get better. I'm quite sure my tactics rating is not accurate, but as long as I get challenged by the tactics problems, I dont really care what my rating is.

FaceCrusher

It's like always being broke, or making very little money. The only way around it is to provide more value and make more money. It sucks getting dinged for -15 on tactics trainer and watching your rating go down. But the only way to fix it is to get better at tactics. Kasparov would get a 3000 on that thing. It's easy if you get good.

FaceCrusher

My only advice is to work harder. It's not being mean. I just don't know any other possible way to fix it.

I always thought (after personal experience) that doing chess tactics at different levels helps you become a better chess player. Chess.com is trying to determine if you are up to something this difficult. In conclusion it is a system that works for some players not all

Sure it does.

FaceCrusher

Get better at tactics, lol. Then the problem goes away.

Well, there are always engines. But engines are people, too, you know.

Well,  sometimes I think so.

As far as TT is concerned, they tweaked it recently, and they have not quite got the untweaking right yet.

Be patient, they have to fix V3 first.

Very true. I love my engines. I have about 20 of them built out, configured, dialed in just the way I want. I make them fight each other in all kinds of tournaments. I sit at home, comfortable, no worries, and play any line or against any style I want. I have some dialed in to be very aggressive. I have one though.... a lot of engines advertise "This one is aggressive." Most of them aren't though. But this one...this one I have is a goddamn lunatic. I mean he is demented. It's not aggression, it's more like blind rage, a freak on bath salts trying to murder you at his own expense. God it's fun to play against. I make some super defensive to practice attack. Some play very unorthodox openings to practice against strong players who don't use regular openings, like a lot of hustlers and street players set up. I have a couple Karpovs for quiet, positional games. Some people say "Oh playing against the computer won't help you improve blah blah." The hell it won't. It's great practice.

Is beta better, whatever it is. I must google it in the tech meaning of the cyrillic alphabet's second letter.

As pl4 said, it is like at the casino.

Billkingplayschess

A couple weeks ago I just cracked 2100. Now I'm in the 1200s? I honestly don't remember getting a lobotomy!

camter

No wonder you have hit a low bottom, Excal.

Billkingplayschess

Wait just got it up to 1300s

Billkingplayschess

20 years of 1 minute chess did ruin me on tactics. The TT is literally why I joined this site. Nothing like it anywhere else. I actually enjoy it more than a live game.

friedmelon

Wait, I have the same problem.

If you just do a 1300 problem in 4 seconds, you can get points-it's possible!

DiogenesDue

Oh no, nobody can memorize their way to ridiculous tactics ratings anymore?  No more getting on alternate accounts to bone up on the few hundred tactics at each level and exploiting the system?  What a shame.  Say it isn't so wink.png...
