I've heard of it. Not sure how about all the details, but I've heard of it.
Three Way Chess?

I still have 4-way chess that 3 of us invented in high school back in 1995, then some other company made Chess 4 which had a slightly modified board.

It seems pretty complicated, has anyone ever played it? If so what was it like and is it worth trying sometime?

I think 3-way is popular in some Asian country. To Jion; what was your board like in high school?? I have a 4-way that's 16x16.

My main idea is that a thing that includes "three way" on it must be good. But yeah I have a board like that in my home and just love the game.

I assume the game is the same; just the geometry of the board is different? Can 2 people gang up on the other, or is it one for all? If I'm not mistaken, I think its round isn't it?? Thanks!

From what I know, in some versions its whoever achieves checkmate first wins (that prevents two people from gaining up on the third because only one of them will benefit in the long run). The strategy is also a little different from normal chess I think. If your piece is being attacked by black which is being attack by red (or whatever the third color is) then white's piece is defended by red.

Nope it's not round, at least mine isn't. The idea is all vs all setup but if I make the mistake of playing with my sisters they will unite against me :/

Thank you Jrmld; I was thinking like a demolition derby. I'm also interested in combining some ideas about different kindsof chess.

In my early years, the chess club regulars used to retire to a late-nite restaurant with our tiny board and would play either 2, 3 or 4 depending. With that version of 3 way, one played a different color every turn. Got kind of mind-bending trying to figure what side you would be on when the axe fell... but a VERY fun game!
Has anyone ever heard or played three way chess? I didn't know there was such a thing until recently.
