tilting is a big problem

a few months ago i was tilting so much that my rating went from 1050 back to 720, what tips would you all give to make it better (by now I'm back at 1100 already)

You play Rapid games. So, set-up your limit for the day. Let’s say, you play 3-5 Rapid games per day. And that’s it. If you lost all of them - return tomorrow. Did you lose the last game? Also, return tomorrow.

If you have tendency to tilt, you cannot play in normal way 10 games in a row, let’s say.

Great post! I try to remind myself that my rating will always normalize itself to the skill level I'm choosing to play at, (., am I 'trying' or not?) If I TRULY want my rating to rise beyond it's normal range, I know I have to commit to 'changing' my game; (which is hard to commit to in a permanent way).

Anyway, that's my 2¢.

Try warming up your brain first, and not play tired.

I have had something similar happen to me. Trying to starting playing in the right mental state is definitely part of the solution for me. Setting some pre-defined limits has like always taking a couple min break after a loss or stopping after 3 losses in a row has also been helpful. The key is to identify what triggers the tilt.

He realized the issue - tilt. So, the best mechanical option is just limit number of games..

You don’t tilt when you’re playing for fun or curiosity. You tilt when you're playing for identity. Detach from rating as identity. It’s just a number that moves while you explore. It doesn’t define you.

Never resign, even if dead lost, other side can hang mate in one or stalemate. Even if you limit your games per day, not resigning will preserve Elo on occasion. It also teaches you to be more active and create difficulties for the other person who may struggle to convert the advantage or even flag whilst thinking. It keeps you present to the game and stops you from blundering as much as you are engaged in finding moves and ideas.

Leto's advice on this thread is excellent. It's very hard to restrict the amount of games you play, and I really struggle with it, especially after a couple of losses when you become desperate for that 'winning' feeling again.

But speaking personally, I do know that if I follow that advice my rating will improve and so will my enjoyment of chess in general.
