Tips for blitz?

Ok so both my classical and bullet are way, way higher than my blitz. I just can't grasp that time mode at all and don't know what to do in it. What exactly am i doing wrong in blitz? i feel like my blitz rating should not be less than my classical by like 300+ points

You first need to stabilize your classical rating . Once you are a solid 1800 player , start practicing blitz , and you will get to 1600 blitz easily. I did that before. But tilted later lol

You are doing fine

Also btw I see your rapid is 1778 . I want to know whats the most common time control you play ? If you play something that's pretty long like 15+10 ,or 30 or 45+30 , then its completely fine for your blitz to be less than 300 points of that rating

It's unusual that you perform more poorly middle-control timings than the shorter and longer time controls.

My guess is that the pool of blitz players are much more competitive than you might have thought. It's not exactly an "error" of your own.

Its not unusual to perform poorly in middle time controls

At least for most players whom I observed for years, they belong to one of the following categories.

- Highest in rapid, lowest in bullet

- Highest in blitz, lowest in rapid

- Highest in bullet, lowest in rapid

I rarely encounter players who has his highest rating in rapid but lowest in blitz.

To me bullet is the most competitive. I had 1700 in bullet couple times but then lost 200-300 points almost instantly. But for some reason i can keep my blitz rating close to my rapid one quite consistently.

I think it's probably because players can get away with giving random checks or sacrificing pieces for no real gain other than to win on time.

Nah in blitz games it's common for me to make 3-4 blunders per game and many mistakes. If i was making no mistakes and still was losing then i'd agree with you but i just make too many mistakes in blitz

The playing field in blitz is actually much tougher than the rating numbers suggest.

As i said, i make way too many blunders to actually verify your statement. I hang pieces all the time(simple captures) and am unable to see more than 2 moves ahead. Playing so lousily, i can't really call my opponents great since it's my own play which is horrible

Well, try again! You can't possibly lose all the time considering your experience.

Imagine we do a math homework which was meant to be completed in a day (rapid).

Suddenly, we are asked to complete that piece of work right in front of our teacher with a one hour time limit (blitz).

Imagine the number of errors we will make!

It takes practice to get used to the speed for blitz, just as we would for math examinations. Having said that, your rating of 1500+ for blitz is already, in my opinion, commendable!
