Do not play a gambit
If you understand the gambit then play it.
If you believe in it then play it.
If you have had success in the past then play it.
If all the above is true then just play it.
If your opponent gets away from the opening up a pawn he will turn it into a win

I can go and study a wacky King's Gambit for a month and beat you over the head with it because i know it and understand it. Go ahead and try to get out of book. I practice for that.... we are playing at chess.com and they do that all the time.
Next original idea?
How about this for playing against a stronger player:
remove the King after you get said higher player really, really, REALLY SUPER DRUNK
play the first four moves from this position
on move 5 call the arbiter over and have him rule the game must continue from the position.
Now you do not have to worry about checkmate from the said stronger player.
WARNING: Do not get as wasted as your opponent otherwise you might remove HIS King and then you will never beat him.
Or something like that.
Play strong moves.
