Tips on 2 rooks vs queen?
King safety is important. If one side's king is loose, it can mean zero winning chances due to perpetual check, even if they are many pawns ahead.
If kings are relatively safe, then mostly you want your queen (or two rooks) to be in contact with weak pawns. If you can't pressure any pawns and your opponent can, then your position may already be lost.
The two rooks have the additional task of being coordinated. The queen can never become uncoordinated with herself, but the rooks can. In general they'll want to be on the same file or rank. You can of course change them from one to another, and that might take a few moves, but keep in mind they're generally headed to places where they'll be doubled up.
The basic winning idea for two rooks vs a queen is to exchange your two rooks for a queen and pawn, then win the resulting king and pawn endgame (since you'll be up a pawn).
The queen doesn't have any long term winning idea unless she can generate a passed pawn. Mostly the queen needs a dynamic advantage to win (like the king is unsafe, the rooks are uncoordinated, that sort of thing).
I suck at this endgame miserably, are there any tips/strategy's that should be employed when you reach this endgame?
