From a quick read of the FIDE rules, I don't see any preference or clear indication on the matter.
I know for the USCF, clock move counters should not be used to determine if the prescribed number of moves have been completed; the scoresheet is all that matters for that.
to TDs: clocks with move counters preferred??

Which is preferred, clocks with the move counter?
i.e. 2 hours in 40 moves + 30 minutes SD
Should the clock display the move number 1, 2, 3....?
Or is it preferred to not have the move number displayed?
