Among the "chumpions" like Khalifman and Khazim lets not forget Ponomariov...

And let's not forget that they'd tear you a new one any day of the week.  More importantly, why recognize Kramnik as a world champion when he didn't even win a proper candidates match to get there?

This kind of approach is always comical and very childish. Ofcourse the word "chumpion" is comparing them to "real" world champions and not amateur players like myself. Would you count everyone who can "tear me a new one" as a WC ?!  If so there would be so many world champions that the title would lose all significance.

News flash, the title never had much significance in the first place.  Now I'll let you get back to insulting people willy nilly, since that seems to be your thing.  Innocent

The title has significance in the chess world and among chess players. If it has none to you why are you even here ?

Do you think that Botvinnik deserved to hold on to the title as long as he did?  How about Lasker?  Alekhine?  Was Bogoljubov a worthy challenger?  Keres earned the right to play for the title in the 1938 Avro tournament but even so he never got his shot since a world war came along.  Does that mean his name doesn't belong in the lists of the all time greats?

The title may have significance to you; doesn't mean that all chess players have to agree with you.  Me, I appreciate strong players, chumpions included.

I think Topalov proved himself to be a "true" world chess championSmile

Chumpions fits the likes of Khalifman, Khazim, and Ponomariov and its evident when you compare them to the real champs, those before the split caused by Kasparov and some after as well. I think more chess players would agree with me on this than you.

I am also a Bobby Fischer (world champ 1972) fan and I think of him like Hurricane Higgins (1972 and 1982 world champ) in snooker who didn't win that many world titles but was such a fantastic player and I was fortunate enough to see Hurricane Higgins in person playing a demonstration match in Sydney.

Note: These two were both world champions in 1972

The other world champions are still champions in their own right but not a Chess Legend like Bobby Fischer as he had that unique historical facts that came in his time with the politics and all the troubles he has had and even after he had died he had controversey.

To clarify, I was taking issue with your referring to them as "chumpions" not that I thought that they were playing at the same level as the likes of Kasparov.  I'm a big fan of Khalifman, he wrote some excellent books for Chess Stars.

They won the WCC fair and square. The top 10 players underestimated their opponents happy.png

For the sake of argument, why not recognize Carlsen as a world champion too then?
