Tournament Advice

Hi Folks,

Tonight I will pop my OTB Blitz tournament cherry and would greatly appreciate any advice about how to approach the event. It's my first time at a chess club and tonight's a season-opening blitz event. I'm not at all sure about what to expect/ etiquette/ tactics etc. I'm pretty new to chess in general and haven't played any OTB for many years (and then it was with friends).I fully expect to get roundly trounced throughout the evening but any little tips would be gladly received. Thanks in advance.

Because it's blitz concentrate on the clock. Concentrate on move - hit. When not used to playing with a manual clock it's easy to forget hitting. Also you want to watch the time. Manage yours by playing good moves but not looking for the best. Also watch your opponents time when they get really low for flagging.

Hope you have a fun time!

Thanks for advice- it was great fun. Quite a change from online chess to have your opponent looming large in front of you and the perspective of the board is so different too. Will be back for more!

Hey can tell me what's that move called when you move the rook and queen on the same move?
