"So I have to play for the point that everyone else got for free. "
You're saying they lost 5 and won 1? Or they lost 6? That 6th game wasn't free regardless.
If you drop out of a tournament what happens? Does your rating go down? Can you simply refuse to play under these circumstances and people treat it as a bye? You just won't win the tournament unless you did really well compared to the other players. This is how I would handle it.
I'm saying I have to play this person to get a point and no one else in the tournament had to. I'm not sure what if anything can or should be done about it. It doesn't seem fair. The player probably should have withdrawn from the tournament. I guess I was just wondering if other people have faced this circumstance and what they think about it.
I am in a tournament where one of the 5 participants has lost every game but one on time forfeiture. So I have to play for the point that everyone else got for free. I don't think this is a Fisher vs the Russians plot or anything. It's just the random way it's happening, but it does seem a bit unfair. I've had enough things happen in my life that I'm not passing judgement on someone not completing their games. Life happens I know. I do think if you can't play all your opponents in a tournament the same number of games to completion you should withdraw.
