Tournament tomorrow

I am playing in a tournament tomorrow that is 30 min a side. This is a strange time control as I am used to 10 min or less, or at least an hour. does anyone have experience with this or a simular time control? and or any suggestions for this quick, but not blitz time control

Well, I will be one of the majority: No.

In past tournaments I have played in, the games usually had time controls of:

Game/45 with a 5 second delay or increment.

Game/90 with a 30 second increment.

Game/75 with a 5 second delay.

Game/120 with a 5 second delay & after 40 moves (sudden death), you and your opponent each recieve an hour added on the clock.

Nothing even close to game 30!

30 minutes?  Think of it as 1 minute to make a move. Games for the most part are over 30 moves. Ok say we make an adjustment and the game goes 60 moves. That is 30 seconds a move on average.

I say play it like you play a 10 minute game. The first couple moves try not to give your opponent a time advantage that will used against you as the game goes on. In the Middle game is where you want to start to use up your clock.

Thanks for all the advice. My first game I played quick, but it was easy and we each still had more than 15 min left. The second game I played too fast and dropped a knight, but was able to put enough pressure on him to win it back and go into a winning endgame up on time. Game three I finally slowed down and won the endgame with a bit less than 10 left. The final round was very hard, as it was even materail and a very sharp position once we both reached five minutes left on our clock. from there we each played about 13 moves in 2 minutes ending with me getting mate. even though I did not particularily like the time control it was a success as I went 4/4 and won. I will need to continue to work at 30 min as I will be playing in future tournaments with the same time control

It was a campus tournament at my college, not USCF rated
