A bunch of beginners playing each other in a tournament. Over a weekend? I mean, I would be impressed if you could hold their attention for two hours... It also depends on how many people, for eight people probably a four round swiss with fifteen minutes per side....
Tournament with friends: what is the best thing?
Not over a weekend. Let's say we have to play all the games in 1 month. Something like 5 to 6 people. I would like something longer than 30 minutes, what is the usual time control ? (I almost only play OTB without clocks, so I do not know what people usually play).
Forty-five minutes is typical, so is an hour.
A round robin, everyone playing everyone else, is probably best then. It would probably take too much time to play one game as black and one game as white, but that is common...
I'm confused, are these people all in school?

Thanks. No, not in a school, just friends, we play tennis in the same tennis club, and coincidentally they play also chess.
I am thinking to organise a tournament OTB with friends. I would like to use a clock, also for me to get more used to it.
What do you think would be the best thing? 30 minutes? Or longer? Two games everybody against everybody, once with white and once with black? I really don't have any experience with this. Usually I organise tournaments for beginners without clocks.
