My Two 2014 Chess Resolutions and Two Personal Goals

Sort:
RichColorado

My Resolutions for the whole year:

1. On every on-line game I will analyse before making the move no matter what.

2. I will not add any more games until I finish all the 16 current ones.

"Those two are realistic and I know I can apply them"

My short term goals with training:

1st. Will attempt to raise my chess rating to 1650.

I think that will take some hard work, and a change in my         playing style

2nd. I will raise my bowling average to 190 before April 15, 2014.  That's when the averages are turned in and USA taxes.

That will also take some hard work and a change in my             delivery style and a lot of focus.

3rd. Learn how to cook Plant based meals.

I gave up all dairy and cheese, red meat, chicken, fish and anything that had a mother, had eyes or moved around and its own.  So it is more Vegan not vegetarian. Got any suggestions?

Cooking will take a lot of effort especially since I'm                  used to eating all my meals in a restaurant.

What are yours, if you're making any for 2014?

trysts

I'm going to sign every petition I can find to legalize pot in my State:)

RichColorado

Trysts:

The state has to be California and I already signed several.

Yes, there are people in jail for just a little bit of marijuana for their personal use.

It is necessary to relieve pain and suffering for young and the old.

Laughing

And I just think it's awful that people go to jail and pay fines for such a thing. I just read an article about a person who his serving life in prison for three pot offenses! That's not justice.

Looks like nobody has any resolution any more!

well I am trying to raise my online to 1600, and my bowling average to 200 (its hovering near 170-180)

dashkee94

For chess, I want to get back over 2000 USCF and beat a 2300+ player in a OTB game.  For life, sign those pot petitions and and get a single-payer health care system.

radiant_stag

Mine is to sign the pot petitions

Hi Jetfighter . . . . I am at 1600 but I am going to lose a game or two chess games to lower rated opponent so I will lose about 22 points. . . . . I have a 172 bwling average because I had health problem but now I'm healthy. With the low average, I have won several bowling tournaments. . . . The highest I have ever been was 210 . . . . Happy new year!

Dashkee: That to me doesn't sound realistic to beat a 2300+ player OTB, How about a beating a 2000?

Signing a petitions is easy to accomplish, but the single payer in the USA impossible.

Easy and simple to do.

dashkee94

Denver, the first two are realistic--I've had winning positions OTB against two 2300s (2385 and 2310) but lost them both and I've beaten a number of 2000s OTB (my highest scalp is 2216)--though the second two I admit have a long way to go, but they'll never get done if one does nothing.  Remember, at one time in US history black and women's voting was impossible, too.  But, like trying to beat a master, you'd better be ready to fight.

Chessgrandmaster2001

Mine is to get my FIDE rating to 1600 Classical and 1800 rapid.

Good luck in your quest.

If you are comfortable I wish you the best.

I am going to try and stay above 1600 (i have gotten there before but then fell back 50 points. I will try to make my bowling average 1 (i haven't ever done bowling before)

Ben_Dubuque

Ajttja good luck with the second one and have fun in both pursuits

Very realistic goals! I think repetitive solving of simple tactical exercises can easily get you there. I strongly suggest the nice book by John Bain "Chess Tactics for Students", and Gilliam's "Simple Checkmates". Do them both about 10 times. Very impressive bowling average! Best of luck!

I have started on Polgar 5334 checkmates. Once over on the singles and several on the two movers.

2000 USCF is my main chess-related goal, but it's probably not realistic (since I'm probably overrated at 1952, provisional through 17 games). I had one good tournament a few weeks ago where I went berserk and beat 3 1900s and a 2000, but I don't know if I'm anywhere near expert strength.

You and I are in the same boat. I am at 1602 and will lose 13 points cause I will lose a game shortly. I blundered after I sacrificed and stopped my attack.

Bobby Fischer used to bowl to relax after matches. Give it a try, it is a individual sport and hard to master.

Wow! It must have felt great when you won those four chess games. They were probably talking to themselves. If getting to 2000 is your 2014 goal It might take hard work to retain it once you get there.       Good luck.

Eventually I plan on joining the uscf
