Type in moves

I am curious if anyone else would like to see the option to type in moves, once in a rare while I have a mouse slip..and think typing woud be a nice option.

yea mouse slips suck

QueedyQuee

totally agree.

You can click on the piece then click the square to move it to, that stoped the slips for me.

Hey SlimReaper99, yeah I figured this out recently, and been trying to make it habbit to move this way. However I still find myself dragging... and I'd say once every 10 games an unexpected piece gets dropped in the wrong place mid-move. Usually not to my benefit. Undecided

I like how the iphone app asks you to submit the move, be awesome this could be an opption. :)

PrivatePyle99

The problem with a submit move button is you get to move a piece and see how it looks on the board before submitting it.  OTB, with touch move rule, doesn't allow that, so adding the button would be quite different from OTB chess, where you just have to visualize the move. Just my opinion though.

You are correct. But should we really try to make playing online the same as OTB? I am not sure.

For instance I cannot see when my oppenet walks away in abondonment.  Also, the iphone APP as I mentioned already alows this. So one player using the APP has this potential advantage, and another who plays online via computer wont. Good conversation.

I am interested in seeing this option put in place, not simply for online chess clients, but for software-based analysis boards as well. Xboard has something like this, but what I would also like is a method of setting up a chess position by typing in chess positions without using FEN. So the idea is to be able to type "bKd8" to place a black king on the d8 square. As someone who is a fan of command line interfaces and wants to avoid gui whenver possible, I am very much eager to see someone implement this.

And I think it would help people get to know the squares of the board much better if they had to type in their moves.

I'd like it so I can move on the touch screen. When I select a peice I'd like to take it highlights it instead.

I know this is an old thread, but I agree this would be a great feature to add.

Yes please. I would massively help with board vision without having to practice it separately.

maybe someone can write a userscript to implement this.  i don't know if this would be allowed

I totally agree, just lost my queen in a game due to a mouse slip and this has happened to me quite a lot. I wish there was an option to do so built into chess.com.

but then what if you type in the wrong thing? type slips

I have been testing it for a while now. It first shows you the arrow representing the move, then you confirm with Enter so actually safer than mouse from my experience! Which time control do you play the most?
