upset world record

Sort:
chessmaster102

Who professional or amature OTB or Correspondence has the MOST (NOT BIGGEST) upsets (even timeout wins count) post how ma.ny you have and what the other players rating was or at least averaged of all the upsets

P.S. a draw counts as a upset here aswell but only if the higher rated player was at least 200pts higher rated.

This doesn't make much sense. If you get a large number of 'upsets', your rating will increase to reflect the fact that they were never really upsets at all. Such a statistic doesn't really exist.

chessmaster102

I see your point Nytik then lets talk about players winning in events they werent expectd to win at all. The following examples can be

Harry Nelson Pillsbury winning Hastings 1865

GM Glenn Flear winning a strong tournament in London of 1986

Sultan Khan beating Capablanca

GM Bobby Fischer Winning the US championship at 14 years old (unheard of then)

GM Garry Kasparov winning the Sokolsky Memorial in 1987 (the event had many GM's and IM's and the then young Kasparov was only at expert stregthn (2000-2100) )
