In the United States, I'd guess most people have surnames that are not English.
US Chess Championship. Where are the Americans?
Yeah, and your nation's best player is Anish Giri. These players are American citizens and are the best players in the U.S.C.F. What is your problem with this?
Look at them.........95% immigrants. This has absolutely nothing to do with a US Championship.
Hmm ...
Robson born in Guam (US Territory)
Sevian born in New York
Troff born in Utah
Shankland born in California
Holt born in Kansas
Naroditsky born in California
Nakamura was born in Japan but his mother was a US national and he moved to the US when he was two.
So, not 95%
Who are these imbeciles who keep insisting that Immigrents aren't Americans. Of course they are. The United States is a magnet, attracting people from all over the world. Unlike, say, the Netherlands
Mostly just this guy lately, but a lot of people seem to be just as misguided in my experience. Classify it as ignorance.
For everyone in the USA, someone in your family was an immigrant.
Do not feel special that you are born in USA.
That's what makes special that country, IMHO. But all of us are immigrants, anyway.

Well, no, certainly not everyone. A lot, sure, but not nearly everyone.

I don't see how those two statements are related.
Maybe in other countries if a family member is an immigrant it is shameful?
This is an odd thought to me, because an immigrant to the United States is usually a person who has many good qualities. High motivation, high intelligence, and hard worker.
I can't imagine going to University in a 2nd language, or starting a business or professional career in a foreign culture. These people are amazing.
Wow, someone called their daughter 'Nazi' .... lost for words.
And VeeDeeVee, I am slightly ashamed of you as a countryman, for this thread. And for a history lesson: Bobby Fischer only just about managed to be born in the US, both his parents (father is shrouded in some mystery) were foreignors. One of the next best American chess players Sammy Reshevsky was born in Poland. So let's not harp on about this issue.

Family does not mean only the people you are related to who are alive / living.
It includes your ancestors like parents, grandparents, etc.
I'm aware of that. Maybe you've never heard of "Native Americans?"

Native Americans came mostly from Siberia. Some came from Europe.
FYI, there is scientific evidence based on genetic analysis that Native Americans crossed the Bering Strait in ancient times when it was still solid land/ice which allowed them to travel/migrate from the region of modern-day Siberia in the currently Russian part of Asia to the continent of Native America. Even they descended from another area of the world which means their forefathers were immigrants. As a result, Native Americans are closely genetically linked to Asians.
If you go back far enough everyone is descended from Africans.
