Hello Jazzy004,
This is a common area of confusion, and I can help clarify. The difference you're noticing might be due to how and when the USCF updates and processes ratings:
-
Tournament Processing: Ratings from tournaments are updated in the USCF system after the event results are officially submitted and processed. If your tournament on the 19th was submitted after the cut-off for that month's ratings update (typically by the third Wednesday), it would be reflected in the next cycle.
-
Published vs Current Ratings: The "published rating" refers to your official rating in the monthly supplement (released on the third Wednesday of the prior month). The "current regular rating," which you see when searching your name, updates dynamically but can lag depending on when tournament results are submitted.
-
Timing: If the tournament was processed in time for the monthly update, both ratings should match. If not, the current rating might lag until the next update cycle.
You might want to check if the tournament director submitted the results to the USCF before the deadline for the latest update.
Let me know if this clears things up!
Hello,
I am baffled. My USCF regular rating (after searching my name) is "behind" my current published rating. I played a tournament on the 19th, the third Wednesday came (when they do the USCF rating updates) and now that the first of the month has arrived I was expecting the two scores to be the same. I might be having a brain fart. Someone please clarify. Has it always been like this or what?
