Using Game Explorer While Playing a Game

Hi everyone, i was just wondering if it was allowed to use Game Explorer and/or the Book Openings feature on this site to assist you while playing games. Thanks

When you play an online chess game it is allowed (you can uses game explorer and other databases and books, no chess engines allowed though), but not when you are playing a live game: then you can't have ANY help

I used to but I memorized more openings now.

how come you can't use Game Explorer in live chess?  it shouldn't slow down the game any, you'll only use it for the 1st 3 or 4 moves.  But I can use in in Online chess, right? I never knew that!!  No wonder my rating keeps going down.

I believe the idea is that live chess is meant to emulate OTB play where these tools are also not allowed.

My understanding of correspondence chess chess (online is basically the same thing) is that you can do research, meaning opening books, databases, position searches, etc, but you cant ask another person for input, nor can you have a computer analyze the position.
