Why do we let players abuse vacation so much.

The site has a very specific definition of what constitutes vacation abuse. If a player is doing that, it can be reported.

If you don't like the vacation rules, write to the site administrators (Help, Make A Suggestion) and explain in polite terms why they're got it wrong and what your solution is.
Personally, I'm amazed that I've been a chess.com member for 4+ months and already am entitled to "1 month, 21 days" of vacation. Then again, we Americans are not used to more than two weeks of vacation per year.
I'm going to spend two weeks in the Caribbean in August and may have a few 3-10 day trips over the rest of the year, but if it adds up to 30 days that would be unusual.
