Whenever someone goes for a scholars mate, I have an urge to send a message saying it’s cheesy . Is this considered verbal abuse?

Well it's a game people can make any move they want, if they want scholars mate and depends what you message them i suppose to be classed as abuse.

That isn’t verbal abuse. But I would recommend not being negative in the chat.

I went for it and the guy sent a message saying "shame on you". 2 moves later he had lost and at least had the grace to message "shame on me" :)

Thanks good feedback. I mostly think about it because going for the scholars mate is either a cheap victory or a waste of time as far as I’m concerned.

In bullet and Blitz it works because people pre move so get caught out i suppose

Don’t mind being reported, but is it banworthy? Wasting people’s time should be what gets banned!
